ABOUT

What It's Like Doing Therapy with Me:

I don’t just sit there and nod my head and ask how you feel about your feelings.

Christopher Wenner, Psychologist in Tucson, AZ

My name is Chris Wenner, and I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2010. My training included psychological assessment, psychotherapy, teaching, and clinical research. Since then, I’ve worked with adults, couples, families, and individuals across the lifespan in a wide range of clinical settings.

Therapy with me is always individualized and interactive. No canned advice, no passive silence. I actively engage, talk, and listen in each session. I want you to see results. I don’t just sit there and nod my head and ask you how you feel about your feelings (unless that’s genuinely useful!).

My clinical experience includes medical clinics, inpatient hospitals (including the Tucson VA), state prison, and youth programs. Working in these settings has given me broad exposure to anxiety and panic, depression, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, OCD, sleep problems, and the many ways psychological distress can show up in real life.

Clinically, I am certified by the Unified Protocol Institute and practice a modern, empirically supported form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness practices – all of which have strong research support.

I’m also a former Adjunct Professor at the University of Arizona (and previously a Graduate Student Instructor), where I taught many courses in psychology which helped me learn how to explain complex ideas in ways that actually makes sense.

I am also licensed by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners (License #PSY-004542) and am a member of the Southern Arizona Psychological Association (SAPA), the Arizona Psychological Association, and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapists (ABCT). I provide secure telehealth psychotherapy for adults throughout Arizona, and maintain a profile on Psychology Today, Alma, and Headway.

I moved to Tucson long ago for college and quickly fell in love with the Sonoran Desert. I knew immediately that I would stay and make this my home. I use a wheelchair full-time because of an injury in high school… and as you can see by all the grays, that was a long, long time ago! Outside of work, I keep myself busy with photography, road trips, street tacos, a wide range of music, nerdy non-fiction, and spending time with family and friends.

"I’m incredibly grateful for all the support you've given me. Your guidance helped me through a really tough period, and I truly don’t know how I would’ve gotten through it without your help. Thank you for your patience, insight, and care, it really did make a huge difference in my life."
